TPA Inks Deal to Offer Health Plan's Medical Management Program
Great-West Healthcare to Serve Acordia National's 1.5M Members

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO and CHARLESTON, WV, Oct. 27, 2004 — Acordia National today announced it will use Great-West Healthcare’s provider network and medical management program to serve its customers.

Acordia National is one of the nation’s five largest third-party administrators (TPAs), handling administrative group health claims payment and customer service for its employer customers’ 1.5 million workers and dependents. A national employee benefits provider, Great-West Healthcare operates a health care network that includes more than 5,300 hospitals and 515,000 providers, as well as an award-winning medical management program.

The industry leading program, Medical OutreachSM, offers continuity of care for health plan members who choose to manage their wellness across the continuum – from maintaining a healthy lifestyle to managing a chronic condition to inpatient hospitalization. Great-West Healthcare’s disease management for individuals with diabetes, asthma and other chronic conditions has been recognized by both the Disease Management Association of America and Disease Management Purchasing Consortium.

Under the agreement, Great-West Healthcare will provide management, training and information systems for Acordia National staff to administer Medical Outreach to 722,000 health plan members. The medical management program will roll out to select Acordia customers during the fourth quarter of this year, with a full launch to all customers in early 2005.

“We’re delighted to partner with Acordia National to extend our industry leading medical management program to its customers,” said Rick Rivers, Executive Vice President of Great-West Healthcare. “Acordia National has accomplished what few have: It offers the benefits of a very large TPA without sacrificing the personal touch its customers have grown accustomed to.”

“Great-West Healthcare’s disease management program is one of only a handful with a certified savings methodology driving customers’ 2:1 return on investment,” said Richard Legg, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Acordia National. “And Great-West Healthcare Medical Outreach will complement our predictive modeling to help customers evaluate their populations, target pockets of higher cost and utilization, and manage workers’ health proactively.”
