Great-West Healthcare’s 90-Day Pharmacy Program Offers Savings and Convenience

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., April 1, 2005 – Great-West Healthcare today added a 90-day retail drug program. The national employee benefits provider is offering the new option alongside its mail-order program for those members who prefer to visit a pharmacy. At a time when prescription drug costs continue to climb, 90-day retail is one more way that Great-West Healthcare continues to provide a variety of offerings and savings.

“Employers can save in the following two ways – at no additional cost – when members fill a 90-day prescription at their local pharmacy,” explained Cindy Donohoe, Great-West Healthcare’s vice president of marketing and product development. “Based on our rates and charges, a 90-day supply of a maintenance brand-name drug typically costs the employer 3 percent less than three 30-day prescriptions. Plus, employers pay two fewer dispensing fees.”

Donohoe added that while members benefit from the convenience of 90-day pharmacy prescriptions, they still pay the equivalent of three copayments.

“They can save one copayment when they use our mail-order prescription program, and we believe the retail option will increase awareness of the mail-order option,” she said.

Additional features of the 90-day pharmacy program include:

  • No additional charge to members for this program.
  • Standard feature added to all applicable plans.
  • Offered alongside our mail-order drug program.

Members will soon be able to visit the redesigned member Web site (www.MyGreatWest.com) for the list of participating pharmacies and recognized maintenance drugs. Plan participants now can call member services for this information.

The 90-day retail prescription program is not available for HMOs, minimum premium plans, fully insured plans, clients with The Pharmacy Card (TPC), customers electing mandatory mail order, and retail benefit limits of 45-day or 100-dose prescriptions.
